CONSTRUCTION TRADE FORMED FROM HEART AND INTELLECT
[February 25th, 2023] The earthquake in February 2023 was evaluated as the worst in Turkey in nearly a century, and it destroyed tens of thousands of buildings, creating a devastating scene of ruins that shook the world.
After the earthquake, both old and new buildings, including those constructed only six months earlier, collapsed. Experts stated that Turkey had implemented many building regulations to minimize earthquake damage, but construction companies often applied them in a perfunctory manner.
Zihni Tekin, a consultant at Istanbul Technical University, said that the reason why Turkish buildings completely collapsed during earthquakes was usually due to poor quality concrete and small steel used to cast columns, making the building structure unstable.
After this painful disaster, we recognize the importance and responsibility of those in the construction profession. Construction is not only about creating the urban landscape but also involves a special connection to human life. Safety and durability in each project are responsibilities and prerequisites that must be a top priority for those in the construction profession.

Construction is a fundamental factor that reflects the scientific and economic level of a country. Everyone needs a home, roads to travel, schools to learn, hospitals for healthcare, and sturdy facilities to work and live in, avoiding dangers from earthquakes, storms, and floods. Therefore, the construction profession has always been elevated and honored throughout history.
Civil engineers are the first to set foot in the desolate and rocky land. With their talented hands and sophisticated minds, they build modern and comfortable facilities and quietly move on to new areas. In addition to mastering natural science knowledge, civil engineers must also have an understanding of history, geography, creativity, organization, and especially love for nature and humanity. A good civil engineer must have a strong sense of responsibility and professional ethics. A small mistake during construction can take away the lives of many.

Remember, safety is the most important professional principle in construction.
Construction must be done with "heart" to achieve something greater.
